Barn Nocturn

There’s an interesting dynamic between frost and the rising sun early in the morning.  If you look into the ice and snow, it’s a blueish color.  The stubble is brilliantly illuminated by the sun.  Everything is so still.

Title: Stubble Sunup, Barn At Dawn
This smallish painting was begun in this icy field one spring morning near the intersection of Atkins & McDougal Rd. in Petoskey, near the high school and Northmen Drive.  The barn is gone now, but the painting lives on.  Donated to D’Art for Art fundraiser, its’ details are lost.  Approximately 10 x 14 x 7/8″  Oil on canvas. That’s a cowpath along the left edge leading to pasture.  I remember seeing the cows making their way down it during summer.  A home-made corn crib made from tree limbs and snow fencing is low to the right.  We are not flatlanders here in Northern Michigan and we revel in our topography.
